Chillin & Grillin – Boys & Girls Club Premier Event

The Boys & Girls Club of Auburn has been providing outstanding services to the youth of the Auburn community for over 17 years. The Club offers a safe place where children can learn and grow with adult mentors who care deeply that they do well and succeed.

This year’s premier fund-raising event for the Club starting at 6 pm is being held at the Boys & Girls Club of Auburn, 679 Lincoln Way in downtown Auburn, June 9, 2012.

There will be a fantastic BBQ done by the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund volunteers. Music to dance the night away will be provided by the band "A Stone’s Throw", playing rock & roll, R&B, oldies and other greats.

Cathy Bianchi came to this area 20yrs. ago and wouldn’t dream of leaving. “This is my kind of place” she has said more than once.

In December 2010 Cathy opened her own bakery, Gimme Cake Too! Specializing in mouth-watering cupcakes, scones, brownies, and so much more. If you are looking for a sweet tooth fix, she is the lady.

Cathy also makes custom cakes for weddings, birthday parties, and special occasions as well as catering for parties large or small.

There is always a smile on Cathy’s face, a bounce in her step and a kind word for all.

Her husband, Joe, is the other smiling face seen daily in the bakery.

If you have not experienced Cathy’s baking skill, you are missing a real treat. Cathy prepares low fat, low sugar and low carb snacks as well. She is also a sought after judge for cooking and baking contests. Cathy teaches a variety of baking and cooking classes.

Flying Pig BBQ

Diana and George Miller, the proud owners of the Flying Pig BBQ, which features slow-cooked pulled pork, ribs, beef brisket, and smoked turkey, have been in the restaurant business well over 20 years.

The Flying Pig specializes in smoked brisket, ribs, and turkey. George has quoted “Our Texas brisket is very traditional. We do a very authentic St. Louis dry style ribs and we start getting a little far afield with pulled pork.” They smoke the meat over mesquite charcoal and hickory, the brisket for 8-10 hours, and the pork 12-14. Miller’s spice rub that goes on all the meats is his own blend of 12 ingredients.

The side dishes are all based on family traditions. The potato salad recipe is from George’s Kentucky grandmother. Diana Miller’s family bean recipe is on the menu, also. The chipotle aioli coleslaw is George’s own invention; desserts, including Texas-style cobbler, pineapple upside down cake, and banana pudding are all made in-house.

Welcome all to this restaurant which adds barbecue flavor to Downtown Auburn with its rustic ambiance and fast, casual dining.

Honey Cowan and “C” Horse Ranch views Think Auburn First as part of their vision to be a helpful and healing part of the Auburn community. “C” Horse Ranch offers Riding Lessons to able bodied and special needs riders, along with field trips and birthday parties. “C” Horse ranch is a vendor for Visions and Horizons Home Schools and the Girl Scouts. There is a Cancer support group which includes a community garden, working with horses and cooking lessons.

Think Auburn First involves all of us. “C” Horse Ranch is open from 1-3 the last Sunday of the month for child survivors and their families (doctors referral to be sure chemotherapy is finished and the immune system is working). Seniors come to work in the garden. Volunteers welcome.

Come and have fun in our “Healing Pastures”, 28 animals with whom to interact.
